We are NOT “lockdown” to Christ!

We are NOT “lock-down” to Christ!

Dr. Sanoop Kumar Sherin Sabu

In this special situation that the world is facing since few months, things have changed so badly that social Christian life has become difficult. Services in churches, mass, and prayers have come to a halt.

Let us recapitulate to see, if this social situation have brought a halt to our personal Christian life too?? For at least some of us the answer is yes!

Joseph is one of the best character the old testament bible highlights. As we study on him, we realize that, he too had such a spiritual lockdown in his life time.  Till the age of 17 he was comfortably enjoying the care, love and spiritual support of his family( Genesis 37). There after his life was in a similar ‘Lock down’  as we are in today! Starting from the deep pit (Genesis 37:21), to slavery under Ismalaites (Genesis 37:26) , to Potiphar’s house  (Genesis 39), to the prison ( genesis 39:19) . In all these situations Joseph was all alone. He neither had a companion to pray with, nor had the technical support to message his prayer matters.

But as we read these Chapters (Genesis 37,39) we get to know a  Joseph who remained faith full before the Lord. He maintained his spiritual life even without the support of co-believers and prayer mates. God spoke to him, he saw more dreams, interpreted more revelations during all these years of ‘Lock Down’!

He had to face such a spiritual ‘lockdown’ for about 13 years. But since he remained faithful during all these 13 years, even without any ones personal spiritual supports, the Lord of Heavens blessed him, and he became the minister of Egypt at the age of 30 ( Genesis 41:46).

All my dear Christians who are facing a spiritual lock down during these months, let me remind you, all legends of bible had undergone such a spiritual Lockdown during some phases of their spiritual life in this world. Let me list down some:-

  • ·         Daniel  and his friends ( Daniel chapter 6)
  • ·         Life of mosses in Egypt, and in the desert
  • ·         David- he was all alone when King Saul was chasing him through the valleys and deserts. It was at these time, he enjoyed Gods grace and wrote many of the psalms that we read daily.  ( 1 Samuel 18,19)
  • ·          Jonah- in the stomach of the fish ( Jonah 1:17)
  • ·         Ezekiel through the valley of dry bones ( Ezekiel 37:1-5)
  • ·         Jesus remained un exhibited from age to 12 to 30 ( Luke 2:41 to 52)
  • ·         Paul went to Arabia instead of being with the apostles ( Galatians 1:17)
  • ·         The disciple whom Jesus most loved (John) in the Islands of Patmos. ( Revelations 1:9)

This is a very short and familiar list. On searching the bible we could get more such legends of God who had such spiritual “lockdown” situation in their life, where they neither had the leader of the church nor a loved one to pray with or associate with spiritually. In spite of the situation they were going through, they remained faithful and prayed to lord and learned from him in personal life.
At the end , we find that all these people achieved glorious spiritual blessings from the Lord.

All my dear Christians... Christian life is not always confined to the church or the mass. Our God is an awesome Lord, who hears our silence of heart, our personal confessions and personal prayers , where ever  we pray from! So lets all pray to lord to help us grow in personal Christian life and to remain faithful like the legends of bible during this “Lock down”  period of COVID 19!!
